Lunar ’69
Over 7 years and $28 billion (in 2025 dollars) in development, the Lunar Module represented the final climactic step of humankind’s greatest ever technological achievement – landing a man on the moon.
Designed to work exclusively in space, the Lunar Module would not have been able to fly on Earth. Nevertheless it went on to become one of the most reliable components of the Apollo moon missions and hundreds of millions of people around the world were watching with bated breath as the the first Lunar Module – called Eagle – touched down on July 20th 1969.
